Last Sunday（7月4日）marked the final time that the Shuto 10’s would be held at 浦安 and I can say great honour that our team won this tournament.
The Shuto 10’s was a great event for all within the Gaijin Club. As we are a relatively large rugby club (roughly 45 active players), we were able to field 2 teams split into Hemispheres (Northern & Southern). Both teams performed superbly, with the North unbeaten (4 wins, 2 draws) but losing to All France in a drop-goal playoff in the quarter-finals. The South got revenge for the North, by beating All France in the semi-finals and then proceeding to win a tense game that went into double OT (Golden Try rule) against AJJ. Aaron Nutsford diving over after an opponent’s knock-on, sparking rapturous celebrations!
Our Club was formed in 1991 over a few beers and has since developed into a perennially competitive rugby club that plays in both the Tokyo Cup First Division and the Shuto League, as well as participating on a number of tours (Manila, 菅平). As I only joined the club last year, I am not entirely familiar with the rich tradition and history of the club but I can speak about the club at present and the future. 2010 has been a hugely successful year for The Tokyo Gaijin Rugby Club thus far. It all started in March, with our team winning the inaugural Manilla 10’s competition and it has continued with a solid Tokyo Cup campaign which saw us back in the top flight next year (We only lost to that Superman Club). Furthermore, we aim to add the Shuto League crown that we lost last year to AJJ. Like 山元さん thirsting for lemon sours, we will be gunning for more silverware this season. It is our objective to play with fun and responsiblity. 責任を持って、楽しくプレーするのが今年の目的です。

I’d like to thank our ever-faithful supporters who come to watch and help out, may it rain or shine. Also, the Shuto League Reps whose work is often unappreciated. It is these people who are integral to the growth and enjoyment of the game. It is always great to have people from all over the world say they’ve had a wonderful time at events such as the recent Shuto 10’s. Thank you to the sponsors as well. Go you good thing! 行け、良いものよ！（と訳する？？）
